Revisiting: My Top Anticipated Books for 2017

benwyatt-humanstories
Ben is still my patronus. I mean it. And I think he’d agree that’s appropriate.

Back at the end of 2016 I did a slew of posts to discuss what books I was most anticipating for 2017. I’ll be doing another bunch of posts in December to discuss my 2018 anticipated books, but let’s look back at my 2017 books.

SFF Edition (full post here)

Out of seven books listed, I’ve bought five of them and read three of of the seven. One is not available yet (SNUG SHIP by Andrea K. Host), one changed titles (THE AMATERASU PROJECT became REBEL SEOUL by Axie Oh), one was a disappointment in some ways (CROSSROADS OF CANOPY by Thoraiya Dyer) and two I’ve reviewed and loved (DOWN AMONG THE STICKS AND BONES by Seanan McGuire and WANT by Cindy Pon).

YA Contemporary (full post here)

Out of the six books listed, I’ve bought three of them and read four of the six. One book was pushed to 2018 (MY SO-CALLED BOLLYWOOD LIFE by Nisha Sharma), one book was such a huge disappointment to me (TEXTROVERT by Lindsey Summers), two were my favs (FOLLOW ME BACK by AV Geiger and I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE by Maurene Goo) and one I keep meaning to read (SEEKING MANSFIELD by Kate Watson).

Romance (full post here)

Out of the seven books listed, I’ve bought four of them and read five of the seven listed. One book has not been released yet (IN OTHER WORDS…MURDER by Josh Lanyon), one book I DNF’ed pretty quickly (TIL DEATH by Jennifer Armentrout), three of them were my loves of reading life (WHITE HOT by Ilona Andrews, THE UNYIELDING by Shelly Laurenston and AN EXTRAORDINARY UNION by Alyssa Cole) and two I haven’t touched yet.

Anthology (full post here)

Of the six books listed I have neither bought nor read any. I’ve pieces of several (BECAUSE YOU LOVE TO HATE ME, FLYING LESSONS and HERE WE ARE), but not complete books. To be fair one is not published in America and would cost me an arm to import (BEGIN END BEGIN) which I haven’t been able to afford as of yet. One book was renamed (TRIANGLES because THREE SIDES OF A HEART) and is not released yet and WELCOME HOME was just released.

Whatever I Want (full post here)

Of the nine books listed I have bought seven of them, read seven of the nine and one was pushed back to a 2018 release (THREADWORLDS). Granted at least four of these were graphic novels (NEWPRINTS, your name, GIVE TO THE HEART, and THREADWORLDS) and one was a guide book (THE SPECTACULAR SISTERHOOD OF SUPERWOMEN), but still words read are words read.

So what does this all say about me, my reading habits, and my buying habits let’s not talk about my reviewing habits? That I did a fairly good job of anticipating stuff I wanted to buy and read. Out of the 29 books available to read/buy that I listed, I read 19 of them and bought 19 of them (thought not all the same ones I read did I buy) which is pretty good odds really. Some of them I’m waiting to buy until a certain edition comes out (the mass market or trade for instance) and a few I bought that are part of a series that I’m a little behind on so will read eventually.

You would think that me knowing my reading preferences would be an obvious thing…but its not. My eyes get drawn to the PRETTY very easily, so gorgeous covers with vaguely related to my interests cover copies will always draw my attention. I’m trying to become more mindful however and this seems to be a good roadway into that.

How about you guys – did you anticipate your reading habits for the year?
