I am a huge HUUUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. I was (teenage) raised on Buffy, watched every single season (own them still), plus Angel (even though I am TEAM SPIKE), and am currently reading the ongoing comic book series (up next is season 12! First issue to be release June 20th according to my research–Wut wut!).

Anywhooo, I just want to make sure that everybody understand that when I say that I am excited about Slayer by Kiersten White you know I am LEGIT excited.

When I first heard the news Kiersten White was writing Buffy I was a bit iffy. Will she do it justice, is it canon, will it intersect in any way with the comic?

I do not quite know yet all the answers to these questions, BUT I did get a chance to read the Entertainment Weekly excerpt (which I almost never do because excerpts are such a tease) and it has made me feel 100% better about this whole endeavor as a die hard Buffy fan.

From the excerpt I got:

  • It is set around season 9 of Buffy. Because that is when we deal with the “end of magic” and the main character kept referring to Buffy’s fuck up, and “how are watcher’s supposed to deal without magic?”
  • Kiersten White likes to write about twins.
  • The main character is totally adorable, and I already love her a little.
  • Wanda WYNDHAM-PRICE… am I to believe this is WESLEY’s Mother?! We shall see…
  • I need the book right NAO. Only an apocalypse can keep me away!

DC is Hoarding all the Big Name YA Authors…

And I’m loving it!

If you can’t beat Marvel at their movie game (I mean, they just can’t) then let’s try to go another route! With popular authors like Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries), Kami Garcia (Beautiful Creatures), Danielle Paige (Dorothy Must Die), Lauren Myracle (Internet Girls), Melissa De La Cruz (Blue Bloods), Mariko Tamaki (She Hulk! Lumberjanes)…

Well, DC is seriously going for the kill, and trying to entice a new generation of readers into the fold.

Black Canary by Meg Cabot

*To be clear, these will be illustrated novels, and not book books.
**Also, I love ALL THE COVERS.

I am so excited, I can’t even. Although I am not a fan of Harley Quinn (she seems like such a bad role model for little girls) I am hoping that Mariko Tamaki will take this character in a different direction. Maybe it won’t be true to the character’s roots, but if Harley Quinn is being promoted for little girls she might as well get a character makeover.

I am MOST excited about Black Canary and Raven ❤ ❤ ❤

Melissa de La Cruz will be writing Batman: Gotham High (no cover as of yet), and Laurie Halse Anderson will be writing Wonder Woman:Tempest Tossed (no cover yet).

I need to Pre-order ASAP.

Who Wants a Sneak Peak of WILDCARD (Sequel to WARCROSS) by Marie Lu?

My attention shifts to a police barricade at the end of the street. They’re directing us to detour down a different block. Ambulance lights flash against the walls, illuminating a covered gurney being lifted into the vehicle. I only need to catch a glimpse of officers pointing up at the roof of a nearby building before I figure out what occurred here. Another criminal must have jumped to their death. Suicides like this have been peppering the news.

And I helped make all of this happen.

Marie Lu, Penguin’s powerhouse, is coming out with the sequel to Warcross on September 18th, 2018.

I personally gave Warcross two out of five stars, I was unimpressed, but I want to give Wildcard a chance to blow it out of the park. Make me regret ever saying bad things about Warcross, make me believe again…

Book Review: Prisoner of the Crown

prizoner

She was raised to be beautiful, nothing more. And then the rules changed . . .

In icy Dasnaria, rival realm to the Twelve Kingdoms, a woman’s role is to give pleasure, produce heirs, and question nothing. But a plot to overthrow the emperor depends on the fate of his eldest daughter. And the treachery at its heart will change more than one carefully limited life . . .

THE GILDED CAGE
Princess Jenna has been raised in supreme luxury—and ignorance. Within the sweet-scented, golden confines of the palace seraglio, she’s never seen the sun, or a man, or even learned her numbers. But she’s been schooled enough in the paths to a woman’s power. When her betrothal is announced, she’s ready to begin the machinations that her mother promises will take Jenna from ornament to queen.

But the man named as Jenna’s husband is no innocent to be cozened or prince to charm. He’s a monster in human form, and the horrors of life under his thumb are clear within moments of her wedding vows. If Jenna is to live, she must somehow break free—and for one born to a soft prison, the way to cold, hard freedom will be a dangerous path indeed…

Note: I have not read any of Kennedy’s Twelve Kingdoms novels so I can’t speak as to how this relates to those.

Book Pre-Order Campaigns

Everyone likes incentives right? And incentives that come from doing what we do anyhow? Even better. Now I don’t have unlimited money…but if I did I would probably go bankrupt pretty quick. These are the pre-order campaigns I’ve put into because they’re books I already know I wanted to get.

I’ll be updating this as new ones appear, but some of these end soon so get a move on!

Back on my old blog, Poisoned Rationality, I used to do a round up of helpful posts for the Book Expo n00b. Its been a few years since I did my last one (2015!) so I thought I’d revise and repost some of those blog posts to help anyone looking for a nudge of help.

I for one believe that Schedules always make an event better. Be they self-made schedules, official programming or just something thrown together while waiting in line at 7am with a half dozen new friends, brochure for the day and highlighters.

This is by no means the only way to do a schedule, but I found this is the best way for me to schedule.

So you’ve heard about this crazy little thing called ‘Book Expo’ and you say to yourself ‘What in blazes in that?’  First, why are you talking like that?  Second, Book Expo is an industry event when publishers, booksellers, teachers, librarians, media and authors all get together to party.

Here’s a low down on the who, what, where, when, why, how and omg in all its proverbial glory.

_one doesn't let her fiance fight a horde of ghouls by himself. Some things were just not done.
Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels #8) by Ilona Andrews

Book confession #1: Kate Daniels is virtually all I’ve read this year. I do not regret it as she is fabulous and all I need out of life.

Above is a funny quote from Magic Shifts, which is as non-spoilery as I can get as this is the 8th book in the series.

Will be posting more quotes as I read along because I want to introduce others to the humor and just awesomeness that is Kate Daniels, aka I want you to fangirl alongside me.

Fangirling

PS; I sort of started reading The Valiant by Lesley Livingston, and so far (only like 40 pages in) it is taking twists and turns I was not expecting. I like it.
